Your HVAC system is the company you enjoy when our temperatures in West Michigan start to soar. As it turns out, we spend quite a bit to keep systems running throughout the year. According to Energy Star, the standard home spends close to $2,200 each year on energy bills. Furthermore, half of that contributes to HVAC-related costs! That’s a lot of money to be spending without knowing if you are reaping the benefits of an efficient system. We turned to our friends at Carrier for some tips on how to maintain your heating and cooling system so that it is performing optimally for your home this summer.
Routine Air Filter Maintenance
This is nothing new, folks! If you have read our blog or visited our Social Media pages, you’ll know we preach this along with many other home service companies! Changing your air filters is key to ensuring your system is performing at its best. Not only that, but it has a significant role in the quality of your indoor air. Changing or cleaning these filters (depending on what kind you have) should be done monthly! If you have questions about your air filters, give your friendly Service Professor technicians a call. We are happy to help you identify what filters you have or should consider using for your system.
Sealing/Ductwork
Energy Star reports that you can save as much as 20% on your bill by ensuring your home is properly sealed and insulated. Don’t let that precious cool air escape this summer! To capitalize on these energy savings, Energy Star recommends paying attention to sealing ducts that run through the attic, crawlspace, basement, or garage. Age of Equipment
If your HVAC system isn’t performing like it used to, consider its age! The typical lifespan of these units can vary, but they usually keep running efficiently for upwards of 10 years. Of course, this will depend on how well you are maintaining your equipment yearly to ensure it’s performing optimally in your home. At Service Professor, we offer Annual System Maintenance of your heating and cooling system as a part of our MVP Home Protection Plan. Learn more here.
An AC on its last leg won’t do you much good as we prepare for summer! If you’d like to see some improvements in your heating and cooling system, upgrading your system might be the best bet if you have an older unit. Repairs of older units can sometimes cause a higher-than-usual invoice, depending on the repairs needed. We are currently offering savings on a new HVAC System.
